How is the Rugby Championship progressing?
The 2024 Rugby Championship is currently underway, and it's been an exciting
tournament with a mix of intense matches and surprises. This year’s competition
runs from August 10 to September 28 and features the usual four powerhouse
teams: New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and Argentina.
Saturday 14th saw some significant results with South Africa edging out New
Zealand, for a second time in the Championship, 18-12 in a tight game, and
Argentina overwhelming Australia 67-27, despite the latter racing off to a 17-3
lead early on in the game. These results mean that the Springboks remain
unbeaten with four wins out of four, the All Blacks have lost three games since
the first time since 2009 when they finished with a 3 & 3 record and the
Australians have suffered their heaviest defeat ever in the Championship.
However, the round of games over this last weekend trumped the previous week
in terms of excitement. Following on from that chastening defeat in Argentina,
Australia regained their composure to narrowly lose to New Zealand 28-31 whilst
Argentina held on to beat South Africa 29-28 later on the same day. As it stands,
going into the final round of games next weekend, Argentina retain a faint hope
of winning their first Rugby Championship, needing a convincing win in South
Africa, whilst New Zealand and Australia meet in New Zealand playing for pride.
This all sets us up superbly for the Autumn International series which will kick off
on the 2 November with the highly anticipated match up between England and
New Zealand at Twickenham. If you are going to any of these games, you might
want to grab yourself a RuggaRobe to ensure that you are able to keep warm
and dry and enjoy the matches without any distraction from the English weather!
