Our Sustainability Promise

Founded on a passion for adventure in the outside world and enjoying nature with our kids, RuggaRobe has a keen focus on protecting our planet.

Here at RuggaRobe we strive to deliver on new and current initiatives to ensure that we work towards becoming increasingly sustainable.  These efforts include continually reviewing our business structure, including procurement and the utilisation of responsibly sourced materials, packaging and meaningful brand partnerships.

  • Recycled Nylon and Polyester

The outer shell of RuggaRobe change robes are made from 100% recycled nylon that would otherwise be headed to the landfill. No harmful chemicals are used in our recycling process. The super soft and thick fleece interior is also made from 100% recycled polyester, diverting plastic away from landfills and our oceans into meaningful use. Producing fabrics made from recycled plastics reduces our reliance on fossil fuels, requires considerably less energy and water and reduces air pollution.

Not all recycled plastics are what they appear, but the synthetic fabrics we source are GRS certified, an independent international full product standard, covering chain of custody (where the plastic comes from and who deals with it along the way), as well as social and environmental practices.

  • Paperwork

We are looking to minimise the amount of paperwork that we produce and will use up supplies that we have on hand.  Paperwork will be emailed to you wherever possible for confirmation purposes. We don't add return labels but ask you to email us if you wish to return anything, but please when ordering your RuggaRobe change robe, please confirm you are selecting the correct size by referring to our sizing chart.  If wearing it as a coat maybe think about downsizing from your normal size.

We do not use any clothing tags or additional plastic tags on our RuggaRobe change robes and we have also replaced our paper business cards with bamboo electronic business cards.

Every little bit helps - let’s create less waste together!

  • Packaging

We are in the process of eradicating single use on-degradable plastic packaging by the end of 2022. We currently use recycled mailing bags but are committed to introducing 100% recycled, biodegradable plastic packaging imminently.  Where a packaging solution has not yet been sourced, some of our suppliers supply items wrapped in plastic and we are talking to them about ways in which they can reduce this. If items are individually wrapped in plastic, we may still send this out to you in this way as it will continue to protect the item when it is sent to you. Many large supermarkets now have soft plastic recycling points.

  • Durability equals less waste

We believe in buying less but in buying higher quality. We don't believe in fast or throw-away fashion, and as such we use thick top quality fabric that means our RuggaRobes changing robes are incredibly durable. They are an investment piece and are designed to last, so creating less waste and ensuring you get to attend all of those post swim catch ups, surf campfires and all outdoor activities for years to come.

  • Shipping

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we discourage express shipping (express, particularly same and next day, is more carbon-intensive than regular delivery) and “change of mind” returns due to the environmental impact of double shipping, wasted packaging and damaged returns. Unfortunately when we return online purchases, they don’t just automatically go back on the shelf: one study found that 84% of returned garments are burnt or sent to landfill.

  • Trusted Supply Chain

We are developing strong relationships with our suppliers. We are only working with those that are committed to ethical and sustainable working. All of our factories are SMETA approved.
